Discover Your Home’s True
Energy Performance Level
Richardson Home Inspections and "The Home Green Team"
The time has come to get to the bottom of why your rooms are drafty, your heating is inefficient, and your utility bills are high. You need to get a real idea of how the various components of your house are functioning, energy-wise. Our Maryland Home Energy Performance Audit is a comprehensive approach to measuring the energy efficiency of your house. In viewing your home as a system of coordinative parts, we seek to pinpoint exactly what improvements your house needs to function as an efficient whole, with the goal of helping you save energy, increase your home’s comfort, and lower your energy bills.
Target Home Performance Issues with a Home Energy Audit
Your thorough Maryland home energy survey begins with an examination of your house by a qualified home energy audit inspector, who will investigate common problem zones within your home and conduct state-of-the-art diagnostic tests to reveal an honest picture of your home’s energy performance.
- Blower Door Testing—A common culprit for energy loss is air infiltration due to poor house sealing. In blower door testing, a certified Building Performance Institute (BPI) energy auditor affixes a blower door to the opening of an outside door of your house. When activated, the blower fan forces air from your home and draws new air in through any existing leaks. Once detected, these leaks are measured for the extent of air infiltration. Correcting air leaks puts a stop to drafts, improves home air quality, reduces global warming, and lowers energy bills.
- Infrared Testing—Thermal imaging is a high-tech means of analyzing your home’s thermal boundary. Our thermographic cameras detect radiation emissions in your house and translate them into infrared images, making it possible to measure thermal loss or gain and determine the extent of energy leakage from your home.
- Combustion Safety Analysis—Inspection of your home’s major combustion appliances (those powered by oil, gas, or propane, such as your furnace or water heater) stands as an analysis for both safety and efficiency. Your Maryland home energy survey inspector checks for carbon monoxide and other toxic emissions while also determining how well these appliances run and when they may need to be replaced.
Finding Your Home Energy Performance Solution
Once the sources of energy loss in your home have been conclusively determined through our Home Energy Performance Audit, your inspector can then recommend any of a series of Green Team Network services for retrofitting and improving your home. All retrofit work will seek to meet energy goals set by your home energy survey inspector.
Once your contractors have completed all retrofitting and energy upgrades to your home, your inspector will conduct a follow-up inspection to ensure that all improvements have been properly installed and all energy goals have been met.
